Bible as such), 4) John (too young and all his children are known from Joseph
A. Herrin Bible Records), and 5) William.

!BIRTH: Marriage consent was given to Rachel Herrin and Morris Stogsdill by
Edward Herrin in 1834. Edward had no daughters named Rachel per the Edward
Herrin Bible. Rachel was then under 18 when she was married in 1834
(1834-17)=1817 or 1816 at the earliest depending on time of the year she was
born.

The only people of this name appearing in the 1800 Maryland Census are
Margaret Gillalan [p. 163] & Hestor Gillerlin [p. 180], both residing in
Frederick Co., but no John. There is little doubt that Hestor was the
widow of John Gilliland (1706-1790), who resided in Chester Co., Pa., at
least as early as 1765 and probably died in Frederick Co., Md.

We know that John died on the way from Chester Co., Md to his daughter's
in Frederick Co., Md, but we don't know exactly where (my note, L.
Herrin; see notes for John Gilliland).

recorded on the sequential pages with James Madison Ping and his wife Ellen,
leaving little question that this is the correct relationship (Page 60 & 61).

Verified by the 1850 Census showing Matthew Barnes 60 years old from
Kentucky and Letty Barnes 61 years old and from Virginia. Sarah is listed as 21

seven girls, and his wife was a Richardson. Fred said four of the girls married

other one married "granddad Ping". Fred said that Matthew Barnes stole a boat
at the Battle of New Orleans and came up the Mississippi River. He was deeded
1500 acres of land on Buck Creek, according to Fred.

!MILITARY: Nina Cash Family Data Sheet for Joseph Thompson, Sr.
Joseph fought in the War of 1812. He enlisted 8-23-1813 at Mt. Vernon, Kentucky
and discharged the same, 11-8-1813. His 2nd wife, Jemima, received 40 acres of
Bounty Land for Joseph's military service. There was a Joseph Thompson who
applied for a pension from Shelby County, KY, but he was 71 years old on Jan.
4, 1834, consequently to old to be this same Joseph Thompson and too young to
be his father.
