He was born March 24, 1908. Their children are Joel Alan born November 4, 1941 married Judith Jane Schoenberger on June 12, 1965. She was born December 17, 1942. They live at Red Bud. He teaches and Judith is a Reistered Nurse. He was in the medics at Scott Air Base during the Vietnam War. Their children are Jeffrey Alan born January 18, 1969 and Jeanna Rae born March 12, 1970. Judith Gail born July 3, 1945. She married Jeffry Edward Metter, born (September 27, 1945), on July 26, 1969. Their children are Jason Scott born July 19, 1971 and Jill Renee born March 22, 1976. They live in Houston, Texas. Janet Bell Auld was born February 14, 1915. She married Rolland McClay born (September 25, 1910), on February 10, 1936. To this union four children were born: an infant born and died August 25, 1938, Paul Dean born and died February 12, 1942, Kenneth Lynn born April 15, 1944. He lives in El Paso, Texas. Janice Arlene born March 15, 1948 married Michael Mickle. Their children are Michael and Ronald. Later divorced and married William Cruthis. Janet is married to Leroy Zellar. John Robert Auld born September 30, 1925 married Norma Frieman October 25, 1952. She was born November 11, 1932. He was in World War II. Their children are: Jean Ellen born 7/26/53 is married; John Dale born 11/30/54; David Wayne born 8/19/56; Shirley Faye born 12/29/59; Michael Frieman 12/14/61; Francis Lyle Auld born October 25, 1929 married Mary Alice Frieman born 2/8/1938. He was in the Korean War. | 755 | I05861 | Henry Herman Frieman, a farmer, was born in Germany on May 27, 1831, and came to the U.S. with his wife Johanish Mary nee Bergfeldt (b. Oct. 5, 1831) aaround 1859. Their oldest son, George W., was born April 14, 1859, supposedly at sea. Mr. and Mrs. Frieman settled in Lively Grove Township, now Oakdale Township, where the remainder of their eight children were born, namely: William Henry, Feb. 8, 1861; Reinholdt John, Nov. 15, 1862; Anna, March 22, 1865; Fredericka Katherine, April 19, 1867;Herman F., 1869; Mary, April 5, 1873; and Henry Conrad, August 15, 1875. They all attended the Evangelical Church at Elkton, where the parents are buried. The children married as follows: George W. to Marie Wahl; William Henry to Nancy L. Kingston; R. John to Mary Ann Reuss; Anna to Leon Bouas; Frederica "Carrie" to Henry Kroener; Herman F. to Sarah Kaufman; Mary to Bill Robinson; and Henry C. to Wattena J. Reuter. Their descendants are many. Auld is the way the name is found on his marriage license and other important papers and the family assumed the name was John Calvin until in 1979 an old Bible record was found listing the marriage of his parents, births and marriages of his brothers and sisters. There, his name is listed as John Cameron Cargill Auld born on Thursday 10/14/1858. He married 3/20/1884 to Isabelle (Belle) McMaster Hood b. 5/10/1858 d. 6/26/1942. For while, they lived on a farm south of Oakdale and then in April 1890, they bought the family farm from his parents. He farmed and was skillful in treating diseases of animals for his friends and neighbors. He d. 9/7/1919 at the Anna, Illinois Hospital. A few years later his widow moved to Oakdale. The last weeks of her life were spent on the farm where she had lived. Their three children were: Ollie Hood Auld (See Ollie H. Auld); James Earl Auld b. 1/26/1891, d. 10/1/1972. He married 12/1/1915 in Morning Sun, Iowa to Mary Edna Robb b. 3/2/1896 d. 3/10/1977. They have one daughter Mary Imogene b. 1/13/1918 who was married 6/7/1939 to Harold Lewis Chrissinger b. 11/6/1916. They have one daughter Sandra Claire b. 10/1/1940. She married 2/18/1962 Charles Russell Orr (b. 7/31/1941). Their children are: Steven Russell b. 10/6/1962. Diana Lynne b. 11/24/1963 Curtis William b. 7/7/1971; Harold McMaster Auld (see Harold M. Auld). He m. 2/17/1848 Sarah Reynolds b. 3/21/1829 in Ohio, whosse grandfather was Col. John Reynolds in the revolutionary War. James came to Illinois on the train from Ohio, with his wife, 2 daughters Lessie and Jane, his mother and a sister Ann in 1858. They then lived on the old Auld homestead north of where Harold Auld now lives. There his mother Mary d. 4/1/1962. In May 1865, he bought from Andrew Todd a farm about 1/2 mile south of where they lived. There his wife Sarah d. 2/1/1890. Sarah was well known and appreciated for her assistance to other families in times of sickness and grief. In April 1890, he sold the farm to his son John C. and his wife Isabelle. He continued to live with them after the deaath of his wife and continued as a weaver. He made an overnight visit with his daughter Jane and her family and died quietly in his sleep that night. Their children were: Mary Celesta (Lessie) Auld (See James McKnight Torrens); Sarah Jane Auld b. 3/6/1852, d. 4/12/1932, m. 3/10/1870 Richard Boyd; William Reynolds Auld (See William R. Auld); John C. Auld (See John C. Auld); James Oliver Auld b. 2/14/1868, d. 8/17/1885 aged 17 years 6 months 3 days. He was overheated putting hay in the barn. He is buried in Oakdale, Illinois Cemetery. They had 2 daughters and 2 sons. Eleanor T., Ada S., W. Kennedy, Ward J. Auld, born 12/21/1894 died 9/1/1955, married 3/21/1917 Jane Piper, born 1/30/1896. Ward and Jane Auld had 3 sons and 1 daughter. The names and dates of these are included in the Robert Piper line. It was thtrough Sarah Reynolds Auld's family line that there was Revolutionary War service. Later in life they bought a place in Oakdale, Illinois, where they both died. He was for years a school director, a farmer and later a director in the Venedy Insurance Company. By Maxine Musselman From 1979 WASHINGTON COUNTY ILLINOIS HISTORY Per Narratives of Randolph County, Sparta Public Library, Sparta, Illinois. John Auld is the earliest ancestor we have been able to definately claim in this Auld line. Statements of proof are herein given. John Auld was a tax-payer in Rockbridge County, Virginia, in 1804. In August 1814, he and his wife Mary Forsythe Auld, moved to Rich Hill Township, Muskingam County, Ohio. Mary Forsythe's parents, Elijah and Jean Ewing Forsythe were married by Rev. John Cuthbertson in May 1781 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Rev. John Cuthbertson baptised on November 21, 1784, their two children, stating their birthdays in his diary - Mary Forsythe born March 28, 1782 and Ann Forsythe born February 8, 1784. (See Cuthbertsons' Diary - do not have this. wlg) John and wife Mary Forsythe Auld, were two of forty members, who enjoyed the First Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, in the newly organized group of Covenanters near the farm home of Mr. McCutcheon, near Zanesville, Ohio. John was elected a ruling elder there in 1821. In 1836 a church on Sec. 30 was called High Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church (Covenanter). The pastor was Robert Wallace and two ruling elders were John Auld and Charles Sterrett. We think Charles was father of George, James, William and Joseph Sterrett. (Mr. Young) As John and Mary were about to leave Rockbridge County, Virginia, for their new home in Ohio, two letters of introduction were given them, a copy of which follows: 1) State of Virginia, Rockbridge County. I, the undersigned subscriber, do certify that I have known and have long been acquainted with John Auld and believe him to be a man of inflexible hosesty, confidence and integrity; well disposed toward the General Government of the US and worthy the attention of every good man. He has been a citizen of said county and state from his infancy and his character stands without a blot or blemish. Given under my hand this 19th day of August 1814 John McGorkle Aaron Harper, deputy N. B. Knowing you are about to move to Ohio, I took the liberty to send you this certificate. 2)We the undersigned, have been acquainted personally with John Auld and Mary his wife (the bearer of this) for many years and as far as we know, believe them to be peaceable, good citizens and have supported a good moral character. Davidson Robert Davidson Elijah Forsythe Abraham Edmiston John Auld died of tuberculesis November 9, 1842 and is buried in the McNaughton Cemetery in Sec. 29, near the graves of his neighbor and friend, Charles Sterrett and his wife Jane McNaughton Sterrett. At the time of John Auld's death, he and wife Mary, owned 120 acres of land in Sec. 30 SE1/2 in Rich Hill Township, Muskingam County, Ohio. Mary and her son James later sold the homestead to Mrs. Jane Forsythe Wilson, a widow of Samuel Wilson. Jane was afflicted with palsey of the hands. She and her sons kept well the farm. The youngest son remained on the farm till accidently killed. My father, Wm. Reynolds Auld, a grandchild of John Auld, stated to me, his daughter, that he recalled some good times he had at play on a chain and pole swing in the timber, just across the road from the house on the homestead. Also that he remembered that the water was drawn by a windlass and pulley, from a spring, up to the back porch of the house. And that the church, known as the South Branch Coventer Church, could be seen from the house, Mrs. Wilson paid $4000 for the farm. John and Mary's son William Auld came to Washington County, Illinois some time before the widow Mary, who with her son James and daughter Ann came to Illinois in 1857. They settled on a farm on the ridge about 2 miles West of Oakdale, Illinois, later known as the Petrashek place and still later known as the McClay place it being just North of the Harold Auld farm. (1957) The widow Mary and son James and daughter Ann came to Illinois on a train, arriving at Richview, Illinois. There they discovered that Ann's trunk was missing. But quite some time later (in 1960) the trunk was located at Claremont, Illinois, with most of its contents gone. This home farm, on the ridge, was bought of James H. Jamison, October 10, 1857, SW SE Sec. 9 to Jamest Auld and Lot 2 Sec. 16 Twp3 SE R4W. The widow Mary Auld died of cancer of the nose and is buried in Oakdale, Illinois Cemetery, as are her daughter Ann and sons William and James and many descendants. The following information regarding the Auld homestead in Ohio, comes from Fred J. Nethers, Recorder, Muskingam County, Ohio. Zanesville, Ohio, November 1937 In 1832 John Auld purchased from the administrators of the Wm. Forsythe estate, the S 1/2 of SE 1/4 of Sec. 30 Twp 13, R 11. This land was sold by order of court to pay a claim against the estate of William Forsythe, for the price of 3 pounds of gunpowder, sold by a man by the name of Leach, in Rockbridge County, Virginia. (Had William Forsythe been in the Revolutionary War?) In 1839 John Auld purchased from James Armstrong 79.81 acres, this being the N 1/2 of SE 1/4 of Sec. 30, Twp 13 R 11. The children of John and Mary Auld were Jane, Elizabeth, John, William, Mary, James and Ann. These will be found in the genealogy. A daughter of William was Mrs. Elizabeth Beall, who lived in Oakdale, Illinois in her later days and she was a very interesting person. She kept a diary of important doings in and around town, for many years. This diary was last known to be in the possession of the family of William Carson in Oakdale, Illinois. She took active part in church and community life and in her younger days was a one room, country school teacher. I found this record of her teaching days written in her hand writing, naming her pupils which I will copy here. My first school, taught 3 mo. began 7/4/1853, taught in log school house, near the Sparta - Nashville road, near Thomas McClurken's, in Elkhorn Prairie, near Oakdale, Illinois. Second, I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Mary Auld, in liew of her dower, the plantation on which we reside, and all my other real estate in the Twp of Rich Hill, County of Muskingham, State of Ohio, containing in all about one hundred and twenty one acres, during her natural lifetime, and all the livestock, horses, cows, sheep, and hogs by me now owned and kept thereon, also all household furniture and other items not particularly names and otherwise disposed of by this will, during her natural lifetime, as aforesaid, she however first disposing of a sufficient quantity thereof to pay my just debts as aforesaid. And that at the death of my said wife, all the land bequeathed to her, to my son James Auld, out of which he shall pay my daughters Mary and Ann each fifty dollars. Third, I give and devise to my eldest daughter, Jane Sterrett, fifty dollars. Fourth, I give and bequeath to my son William Auld, fifty dollars. Fifth, I give and devise to my daughter Mary Auld, my black colt, 2 yrs. old next spring and a good saddle and bridle, good bedding and bed a good bureau and $100. Sixth, I give and devise to my son James Auld, besides my farm as aforesaid, my wagon, my bay mare, 4 yrs. old, a good sadlled and bridle. Seventh, I give and devise to my youngest daughter Ann Auld, when she come of age, my sorrel colt 2 yrs. old, a good saddle and bridle, a good bed and bedding a bureau and $100 in money. Lastly, I hereby constitute and appoint my wife, Mary Auld, to be Executor of this my last will, revoking and annulling all others by me made and confirming this and no other, as my last will. Fourth, I give, devise and bequeath to my brother James Auld, my yellow colored bedstead, 1 feather be, 1 underbed and double coverlet and my set of chairs. Fifth, I give, devise, and bequeath to my sister Ann Auld, my red colored bedstead, 1 feather bed and 1 underbed and the rest of my bed clothes. I leave to my mothers' disposal, and my table I leave to my sister Ann Auld. Sixth, I give, devise and bequeath to my brother William Auld, two dollars. Seventh, I give, devise and bequeath to my sister Jane's children two dollars. Eighth, I leave my body clothes and my books at my mother's disposal. After the above legacies and debts are all fully paid, whatsoever surplus money is left, is to be equally divided between my mother and my brother James Auld and my sister Ann Auld. He attended Pleasant Hill School and graduated from Nashville High School. He served in the 95th Division of the Infantry of World War II in Germany as a First Sergeant. After his discharge he started farming near Oakdale, Illinois in Washington County. He married Eileen Carson daughter of John Elwyn and Edna Joanna Adams (Refer to John and Elizabeth Carson, Wm. and Eleanor Kennedy and Wm. Adams) on July 9, 1945 at the home of her parents east of Oakdale. Eileen graduated from Luney School, Nashville High School and had two years at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She taught school in Washington County. They have three children. 1) Earla Jean was born August 2, 1947 at Sparta, Illinois. She is married to Dennis Paul Kuhlengel son of Rufus and Flora (Schrieber) Kuhlengel on September 9, 1967 at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oakdale. Dennis served in the United States Air Force for four years after graduating from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He and his brother, Larry, farm together near Covington. Jean graduated from Oakdale Grade School, Nashville High School, adn Metropolitan School of Automation in St. Louis, Missouri. She is now the secretary bookkeeper at Hoyleton Public School. They have two daughters, Kimberly Kaye born January 23, 1970 at Dover AFB, Delaware and Tina Lynne born July 22, 1971 at Scott AFB, Illinois. Both girls are attending school at Immanuel Lutheran School at Okawville, Illinois. 2) Ruth Eileen was born August 28, 1948 at Sparta, Illinois. She is married to Duane Allen Harre son of Henry ad Verdell (Reinhardt) Harre on August 12, 1972 at the Reformed Presbyterian Church at Oakdale, Illinois. Duane farms with his brother, Don near Covington. Ruth graduated from Oakdale Grade School, Nashville High School, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She now teaches fourth grade at St. Mary's Public School in Carlyle, Illiois. They have two sons, Gregory Allen born June 18, 1975 in Centralia, Illinois, Dannon Robert born March 31, 1978 in Centralia, Illinois. 3) Wayne Robert was born on October 30, 1951 at Sparta, Illinois. He is married to Deborah Lyn Gaffner daughter of Max and Marian (Rider) Gaffner on August 25, 1973 at the Methodist Church in Pana, Illinois. Wayne graduated from Oakdale Grade School, Nashville High School, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. He is presently farming in partnership with his father. Deb is a R. N. Supervisor at washington County Hospital at Nashville, Illinois. They have one son Bradon Wyatt born on January 3, 1976 in Nashville, Illinois. | 785 | I05956 | Charles Ward Auld b. 2/20/20, second son of Ward J. and Jane Piper Auld (refer to Robert Piper) and Pearl Verdell Boyle b. 1/1/22, youngest daughter of Rae J. and Florence Boner Boyle (refer to Thomas Boyle and son William John) were married 12/26/45. They were the last couple married in the old white frame United Presbyterian Church in Oakdale. Charles had just returned in November 1945 from overseas duty, experiencing D-Day, Battle of the Bulge and three and a quarter years in the U.S. Army. They first lived in an apartment in the David P. Carson home behind the old brick Oakdale State Bank where Pearl had been employed during the years Charles was in the service. Later they moved to the W. K. Auld property one-half mile southwest of Oakdale. Charles was now teaching Prest School near Tilden, Ill. and night G. i. Ag. classes at Coulterville and Sparta High School. In 1950 they bought the Cameron McClurken farm fromm the Reformed Presbyterian Church and moved to this property where they still reside. Charles then began farming along with his teaching position. In 1955 he left Prest School when they were nearing consolidation and gained a teaching position in the Nashville Elementary School where he continued teaching until his retirement, after 36 years, in 1977. Charles and Pearl are the parents of four daughters and two sons. Rosalee Ann b. 4/4/47 and Larry Ray Boreup of Nashville, Ill. were married 4/22/67. She had attended Patricia Stevens College in St. Louis, Mo. and was employed for a time at the Smart Shop in Centralia, Ill. Their children are Rebecca Anne b. 6/29/72, Heather Lynne b. 11/9/75, and Eric Christopher b. 11/2/78. They own and operate Boreup Fertilizer and Chemical Co. of Nashville, Ill. and Larry farms at Nashville and Mt. Vernon. Linda Lou b. 4/7/49, attended Kaskaskia College and S.I.U. Carbondale, married Wayne Melvin collmeyer 11/10/67. Premature still-born twin sons saddened all loved ones but they were blessed with Andrea Megan b. 8/2/73 and Matthew Torey b. 7/1/76. They reide in Red Bud, Ill. where Wayne is principal of the high school. Linda is the family florist and has held employment in this field. Ronald Charles b. 11/10/52 farms at Nashville, Ill. where they live. Ron attended University of Ill. in School of Engineering for two years. He and Cynthia Lynette Markwardt of Nashville, Ill. were m. 6/24/72. Their children are Jennifer Elizabeth b. 12/3/72 and Christina Dawn b. 12/20/74. Cindy is a nurse, working at Family Medical Center and is consulted by all the family. Pamela Sue b. 5/12/54 graduated from S.I.U. Carbondale, Ill. She and Alen Vernon Jacobs of Waterloo, Ill. m. 5/12/79. Pam is County Extension Adviser, Youth, in Monroe Co. and Allen is employed with Monroe Co. Service Co. Veron Scott b. 5/27/58 is in the U.S. Air Force, serving four years at Columbus, Ms. He has future plans for college. Sara Pearl b. 7/9/66 is the only one at home, attends Oakdale Grade School and loves her nieces and nephews. By Charles W. | 794 | I06003 | John or (Jack) Piper was borfn and married and died in Ireland. Not certain of his wife's name. They had 2 sons Robert I and William Piper. They came to America from Londonderry, Ireland in the early 1840's. Robert I was born in 1811 and died 3/12/76. After arriving in America they came on West and he found work with the Swanwick family, who lived a little N. E. of Swanwick, Il. A few years later the Hemphill family came over from Ireland. There were 3 sisters, Rachel, Mary and Jane. Jane Hemphill born 1811 and died 4/6/1887, married Robert Piper I 10/12/1843. the Swanwick family asked Robert I and Jane Hemphill to be married in the Swanwick home. After their marriage the bought a farm southeast of Lively Grove. Their 2 sons were born there. John (whose history appears elsewhere in this book) and Robert II born 2/15/1847, and died 6/29/1927. The family lived on this farm till some years after Robert I's death. (John had married and moved to his own farm) Robert II bought a farm of 200 acres 2 miles west of Oakdale. He bought it from Robert McAfee. Robert II and mother moved there where his mother later died. Her sister Mary Hemphill had lived with them for some years and continued to live with Robert II as she said, to take good care of him. Mary Hemphill never married. Her Irish sayings were often quoted by many who knew her. Robert Piper II went to Clay Center, Kansas adn there married 3/6/1895 Margaret Wallace Boyle born 4/20/1857 died 11/4/1914. She was the oldest daughter of John Boyle and Nancy Walker Boyle. Robert Piper II and Margaret Piper lived on his farm west of Oakdale. Aunt Mary Hemphill continued to live with them for 2 years and died there at the age of 98. Robert II and Margaret Piper had one daughter Elisabeth Jane Piper, born 1/30/1896. In the Spring of 1904, they moved to a farm 2 miles S.W. of Oakdale, to be closer to a school. E. Jane Piper married Ward James Auld 3/21/1917. Ward was born 12/21/1894, died 9/1/1955. He was the son of William Reynolds Auld and Louisa Kennedy Auld. Ward and Jane continued to live on her father's farm. He lived with them till his death in 1927. Jane lives here alone since Ward's death. Ward and Jane Auld were the parents of 3 sons and 1 daughter. William Robert, Charles Ward, Margaret Eleanor, Paul Jean. Robert Piper I and wife Jane H. Piper and all of his descendants herein mentioned on the Robert Piper II family belonged to the Covenanter Church, which was first located where the Oakdale Cemetery is now but was moved into the town of Oakdale. | 795 | I06005 | John b. 7/2/1844 was the eldest son of Robert and Jane Hemphill Piper, both born in 1811, and a brother to Robert Piper b. 2/15/1847. John served in the Civil War as a volunter in Company B in the 111th Regiment. He enlisted with his pastor Rev. A.C. Todd's original group in August 1861 at the age of 17 years and served until his discharge in 1865. He purchased land in Section 17, Pilot knob Township, three miles east of Oakdale from James and Nancy (Luney) Piper, while he was still in the service, in 1864. James Piper had purchased the land from the U.S. Government in 1853 when Franklin Pierce was President. John married Margaret Little (11/5/1845 a sister of Maria (samuel) Coulter on 6/16/1868. John was not only a successful farmer but a breeder of livestock. The horses were shown at county fairs for many years. In 1893 twenty acres were planted in an apple and peach orchard. The trees were purchased from Stark Bros. nursery for $140 per thousand. John served as president of the Venedy Mutual Insurance Co. for many years. Seven children were born to John and Margaret, two dying in infancy: James Renwick, Mary Jane (Jennie), Rev. Robert W., Nancy E. (Nannie), and Thompson. John d 4/24/1915 and Margaret 1/10/1929. | 797 | I0601 | In 1900, Thomas and his family are found living in Petty Twp, Lawrence Co, IL. He is listed as a farmer and their home is rented. They are again found in Lawrence Co in the 1920 census records and 1930 census records. Obit: Thomas died on 2 May, 1940 at his farm in Lawrence Co. He had been ill for many months and in great pain, and chose to take his own life by shotgun to the forehead. His wife, the former Flora B. Walters, has been at the son's farm across the road. Thomas J. Grove was age 83, a retired Lawrence County farmer, the son of Washington Grove (and Sarah Geins). He was first married to Maggie Sewright, who with two children preceded him in death. He was married a second time to Flora B. Walters, who with 5 children, survives him. The children are Glessie Grove, Leslie Grove and Wilbur Gove, all of Lawrence County; Mrs. Essie Smith of Hammond, IND and Lester Grove of Michigan City, Michigan. One son, Raymond Grove, was killed in an explosion at the Cross Roads School about 1920. Thomas was a member of the Island Free Methodist Church; funeral services were held at the White House Church and burial was in the adjoining cemetery. |

He married Margaret Wallace who was born in County Derry, Ireland 1/15/1795, died in Ill. 9/22/1855. They were married in Ireland, were well-to-do Irish -- frugal and economical. They came to America in the early 1840's. They had 6 sons which came along. John Boyle, William Boyle, James Boyle, Thomas Boyle, Thompson Boyle, Adam Boyle. Adam Boyle and Margaret Wallace Boyle are buried in Hill Prairie Cemetery N. W. of Sparta. John Boyle, born County Antrim, Ireland in 1823, died 3/17/1911 at his farm home near Oakdale, Ill. He married 3/1/1855 Nancy Elizabeth Walker, born 6/20/1833, died 3/16/1919. She was born in S. Carolina. She was daughter of William and Sarah Marshall Walker. Nancy Elizabeth came with her parents at the age of 3 to Illinois. There were 3 sisters and 2 brothers who came along. After John Boyle and Nancy E. Walker were married they settled on a farm 1 mile south of Oakdale, Illinois. Their 9 children were born there, 4 of them dying in infancy. John Boyle had learned the shoemaker trade in Ireland and worked some at it as well as farming. The family moved to Clay Center, kansas in 1885, where they lived for 12 years, then returned to their farm near Oakdale. Margaret Wallace Boyle, oldest child, was born 4/20/1857, died 11/4/1914, married 3/6/1895 to Robert Piper II born 2/15/1847, died 6/27/1927. They had 1 daughter. Elisabeth Jane Piper, born 1/30/1896, married 3/21/1917 Ward James Auld, born 12/21/1894, died 9/1/1955. Their families names were in Robert Piper history. | 799 | I06015 | Presumably in the early 1850's, Adam Boyle (1793), son of John and Jennie (Templeton) Boyle, and his wife Margaret (1795), daughter of William and Nancy Wallace, came to America from northern Ireland with their six sons, James, John, Thomas, Thompson, Adam, and William. They settled in Randolph County, and the parents were dead by late 1855 and are buried in the Hill Prairie Cemetery. James, Jon, Thomas, and Adam Boyle moved to Washington County, south of Oakdale by about 1861. Thomas born in 1831 in Ireland, returned to marry in 1856, Margaret Boyd (1833), dughter of William and Elizabeth (Chestnut) Boyd. Their wedding trip was to Illinois, Randolph County, where they lived until 1861. Their children were Margaret Isabell (1857), married to William Fulton; William John (1859), married in 1883 to Margaret Parks, born in Ireland, daughter of James and Jane (Leemon) Parks; Elizabeth (1861); Thompson (1863), married to Rena Green; Anna Boyd (1865); Jane Stelle (1867); Hester (Hessie) (1870), married to William Ardrey, and Matilda (1873). Anna and Matilda (Tillie) were Washington County school teachers for many years. Margaret Boyle Fulton and William John lived and reared their families around Oakdale. Ann, Tillie, and Jane lived with the parents until their deaths and then in Oakdale. Thompson moved to northern Illinois, while Hessie boyle Ardrey went to Denver, Colorado. William (Billy) and Margaret (Maggie) Boyle reared five out of six children. The eledest, Anna Pearl (1884-1963), married (Cleon) Frost. Into this home were born Veron, Clair,Cleona, Jack, Dee, and Margery. Jack is a doctor and surgeon, practicing in Centralia. Veron, retired, formerly operated Travel Electric, also in Centralia. Thomas Parks Boyle (1886) married Vivian Gohmer. They had one son, Duane. Tom, Vivian, and their family live in Iowa's cornbelt. Rae James and Ruby were born twins (1890), but Ruby died that same summer. Rae married, in 1916, Florence Blanch Boner (1890), daughter of John Smith and Lucy Williams Boner. Rae spent his working years farming the property which had once been his grandfather's. Their children were Nelda and Pearl. Nelda married Warren Robb and lives in Perry County. She was for 30 years an elementary school teacher. Pearl married Charles Auld, and they live near Pearl's birthplace, farming the acreage which once belonged to her great-grandfather. Here in Oakdale Township they reared their family. William Pressley Boyle (1892) married Lola Chenowith. To this union were born Robert, John, Bruce, and Phillip Boyle. Willard Boyle was an educator, and at the time of his death, was Superintendent of Schools in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Clifford Leslie Boyle married Mildred Fenon. Most of his adult life he lived in the Chicago and northern Indiana area. His hobby was gardening, and he produced several new strains of dahlias, naming one for his mother.
