The cause of his death was pneumonia. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon and interment was made at Shiloh Cemetery. The deceased was a farmer by occupation and had been a resident of Pulaski County for over forty years. He is survived by his wife and two sons and many relatives through this county. Died, at his home one mile south of Bryan, Mr. Sterling Chavers, an old soldier and one of the oldest citizens in the county. He was somewhere in the nineties. He leaves an aged wife. In 16th-century France, a wealthy family could achieve nobility through a process called enfeoffment—buying "noble lands" (fiefs) that carried titles, and slowly adopting the name of the land until the public forgot they were merchants. Jean Le Neuf, Sr. (c. 1515 or 1530) The Profession: He was a prosperous tanner and leather merchant in Caen. The Wealth: The tanning industry in Normandy was incredibly lucrative. Jean Sr. used his massive cash reserves to buy up properties and educate his sons, ensuring they did not have to perform manual labor. This shifted the family from "working class" to "bourgeoisie". |

The former Leah M. Smith was born to the late Mr.s and Mrs. George Smith at Mokena Oct 29, 1878. Her father was a civil War veteran. She taught school at Mokena for several years before marrying Ernest M.Bedson at Wheaton on Aril 9, 1903. They have been residents of Morris over 35 years. Mrs. Bedson was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and mackabee Lodge. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Howard of Palmer, Mass., and John (Jack) of Morris; two sisters, Mrs. R. Uhlich, Blue Island, and Mrs. Anne Knaus, Wilmington; a brother, Carl Smith, Blue Island, and four grandchildren, Bob and Jim Bedson of Palmer, Mass., and Carol and Gary Bedson of Morris. The rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. |
