His tombstone is on the old Gilliland farm, later owned by Lee Whitis and
Jessie Gilliland Whitis. It is called the Langdon Family Cemetery and it is
located just on the N.E. quadrant at the intersection of Old Hwy. 80 and
Mark-Welburn Rd. It is behind the barn in a cedar thicket. A photo of the
stone is on file.

Timothy Ruark came to Kentucky with the Loyal Land Company, the same
company which Dr. Thomas Walker was with.

have been during the mid 1790's. They settled along Buck Creek in then Lincoln
County; later to become Pulaski County in 1799. In 1803, Jane Claunch received
a patent on 200 acres of land on Buck Creek and Flat Lick Creek by virtue of
having improved the same. This is the earliest record I have found of Claunch
ownership in Pulaski Co."

them. At this point I am speculating that "our" Jeremiah was the son of
Jeremiah and Margaret Claunch who moved to Mecklinburg Co., Va. to FincastleCo. which becam e Montgomery Co. in 1776. Montgomery Co. was subdivided many
times and the Claunches are found in different counties as the areas were
redefined. Their original lands are now in the present-day Carrol Co., Va."

He is buried in the old Randolph Cemetery on Denton Sear's Farm on
Bent R. about two miles south of Hwy. 80, on the bend before you arrive at
Oather Randall Cemetery. Pictures of the cemetery and his resting place is
on file. The stone is probably buried by the gate, according to Wanda
Cheatham, Denton Sears' daughter who saw the stone in 1955. His will says
he desired to be buried by his dec'd wife on the place on which he "now"
lives.

!NOTES: Marie Randolph's notes for her forthcoming book on the Randolph family
shows James Randolph, Jr. of Caswell Co., NC dying in Pulaski Co., Ky. His
birthdate is unknown, but his next #3 younger brother, Abraham, was born in
1760. James was married to Matilda or Martha McNear, MacNear or Meakne

!The Pulaski Co. KY 1860 Census shows James Randolph as 80 years old (Pg 158),
Somerset District. He is listed as a farmer born in North Carolina. His wife is
Jemima, 65 years old.

!There is a marker in the Peyton Randall Cemetery giving homage to him as an
early pioneer and settler og Pulaski County; by his gr-gr-grandsons.
Ironically, this individual is too young to be their James Randolph, but is
probably Peyton Randolph's brother. Peyton and James are more likely, the sons
of James Randolph, Jr., the husband of Matilda MacNear or McNear.

!A photo is on file of the monument to James and Jemima. However, the actual
grave is allegedly on the Denton Sears Farm on Bent Rd. in the old Randolph
Cemetery. It is on the bend before one comes to the Oather Randall Cemetery,
and is under the big tree by the farm gate. James Randolph, Jr. and Matilda
Meakner are believed to be buried there also, with stones labeled "J" and "M".
Mrs. Wanda Cheatham (d/o Denton Sears) said she saw the "Ole man Randolph
tombstone" back in 1955; her dad showed it to her."

John and Sarah are listed on page 386 of the 1850 DeKalb Co. Al. Census. Sometime between 1850 and 1852 John and Sarah moved from DeKalb Co. Al. to Tishomingo Co. Ms. Another researcher reports finding John and Sarah in the Delta area of Ms. after the Civil War.

This particular "Squire Bray", was listed on the 1850 Census being in Pulaski County, Ky. H e also listed his birthplace as Ky., as did "Nicy". I've not been able to locate another "Sq uire Bray" the right age except this one. Therefore, I believe this to be the son of John a nd Elizabeth Herrin Bray.

On the 1850 Cherokee County, Alabama Federal Census, John is listed being age 28; with wif e Nancy, who was 22 years old. His occupation was listed as "farmer".

John White list his age as 54 years which woul d have made him being born in 1796 and not 1798 as some reports have recorded. Clara's nam e is listed as "Clary" and she records her age as 50 years. Her daughter, Hanah Bray also ha d a daughter known as "Clary".

Claimant states that he is 78 years of age and a resident of near Grundy P.O.
and that he enrolled at Camp Joe Holt Ind 9th July 1861 as a private in Co. F
2nd Ky Cavalry in the service of the United States during the Civil War and
that he also served in W. P. Ingram's Co. D Ky State Vol Halls gap Battalion.
He had light complexion, blue eyes, light hair,, was 6' 1" tall and a farmer,
born May 29, 1841. He "is a pensioner under cert. no. 367911. Current address
is Shopville, Pulaski Co., Ky.
g) Physicians Affadavit Proof of Physical Disability Pulaski Co. Ky.
In the Pension Claim No. 367.911 of James F. Herrin late of Co F 2nd Ky Vol
Cavalry. Jas A. Bante of Somerset made oath that he had treated James F.
Herrin for chronic diarhea at intervals of every 2 or 3 months accompanied by
portruding piles, palpitation of the heart made worse by the least bodily
exertion and that he performed not more than half a man labor. Nov 16, 1906.
h) Declaration for Widows Pension, Pulaski Co. Ky Sept 5, 1912 by
Elisabeth J. Herrin aged 61 a resident of Shopville, Pulaski Co., Ky, a widow
of James F. Herrin who enrolled at Stanford July 9, 1861 as a private in Co F
2nd Regmt Ky Cavalry and honorably discharged Oct 12, 1864. He also served as
Sergt. of Capt. W. P. Seagram Co. D Halls Gap Regmt of Ky State Volunteers from
Mar 1, 1865 serving 1 year or during the war. She was married under
the name of Elisabeth J. Randall at James Randall's home on Nov 1,
1866 by Josiah Claunch and had not been previously married. That said soldier

two years ago, for it was then that the death angel claimed my dear aunt.
She has been gone only two short years yet it seems so long, oh, so long
since I saw her smiling face or heard her welcomed voice. "Aunt Liz" had
a smile and a word of welcome for all. She was a dear good woman and her
friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She had been blessed with the

utrix named in the said Decedents Will a certificate is granted her for

that the consideration agreed uopn between said Reece in his lifetime &
& said Herring was paid John Evans was introduced before the court and
deposed to the same bond filed and reference to the Writings in the fore-
going and similar Order made upon the application of James Bobbit will be
futher evidence to the Court motion continued.
