1702 I13369  After graduating from High School in Nashville, Carrie studied music at the Epstien Conservatory in St. Louis and taught in the Nashville Grade School for 4 years. In later life she was associated with her husband in the operation of the Buhrman Dry Goods Store. She lived to be 97 - having undergone major surgery at 91. 
1703 I13370  Elaine attended MacMurray College, Jacksonville, Illinois (at that time called Illinois Woman's College) - 2 yrs. She graduated from the U. of Illinois June 1918. She taught school in the state of Washington, where she met and married Gene. 
1704 I13371  William graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1922. He was a pediatrician in Chicago. Died suddenly. 
1705 I13372  Katherine attended MacMurray College 2 years - 1924-26. Graduate of University of Illinois 1928 - Library Science degree 1929. Worked for Illinois Historical Library 3 years. 
1706 I13373  Gene is a lawyer and they lived in Yakima, Washington.

1713 I13385  Earle was Accountant and Assistant Treasurer, anders Corp., Toledo, Ohio. Now retired and living at Laguana Hills, California. 
1714 I13387  Hugh enlisted in the Air Force in 1917 but after three months training at Princeton University, he was honorably discharged due to a lack of higher mathematics. In Dec. of 1917 his father died and he returned to Washington to be with his mother. He worked for the District Government. He graduated in law from the National University in Washington D. C. in 1919.
In 1918, Hugh was appointed head of the contract dept. of the Emergency Fleet Corp. Shipping Board. Fifter people worked under him. By 1925, there was no more of this type of work. He then went into Real Estate and in later years worked for the Red Cross and in Public Relations in New York City.
In 1953, Hugh wrote a book "The Four Regional Research Institutes". He had been sent with scientists from these institutes to study industrial problems in Germany in 1950 and in Italy, France and England in 1952. He was in poor health the last years of his life and died in Newton Baker Veterans Center, Martinsburg, W. Va.

1715 I13388  Gertrude took a secretarial course at Notre Dame Academy, Washington D. C. She was employed by the patent attorney's office and for 5 years by the Dept. of Agriculture, Washington, D. C. She now makes her home with her borther on his farm in Blumont, VA. 
1716 I13393  Bert is a very talented musician who, for 21 years, was staff organist for columbia Broadcasting System in New York. During this time, he free lanced on other networks and recorded for top labels.
He made his debut as an organist at the age of 10, when he began playing the pipe organ at St. John's Episcopal Church in Springfield. Later he played the organ at the old Electric Theatre in Springfield and the Newman and Main Street Theatres in Kansas City.
He graduated from the University of Kansas, receiving an A. B. degree with a major in music. While he was a student there, he played over Station WREN in Lawrence. He also at one time during his career served as music director for Station KCMO and played over Station WOQ in Kansas City.
Bert's army service extended from 1943-1945, during which time he was assigned to Special Services. Among other things, his job was to help record background music for training films.
In 1963, Bert planned to retire and return to Missouri. The return to sosuthern Missouri became a reality but not the retirement. He was offered a position as organist in residence and radio and television consultant at the School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Mo. He felt he would enjoy this type of work and has become deeply involved in it.
The School of the Ozarks is a self help institution which operates without seeking any financial aid from city, state or federal gov't. and has grown from a one room school to a fully accredited four year liberal arts college. Instead of money, students provide labor for tuition, room and board.
Bert rec3ently was overseer for the installation of a Wurlitzer organ, which had, in 1928 been installed in RKO-Keith's Theatre, Flushing, N. Y., at a cost of $65,000. This was a gift to the college from RKO - Stanley Warner Theatres of N. Y. City. Funds for shipping and installation were provided by Mrs. W. Alton Jones, a member of the board of trustees. The Dedicatory Program featured Bert Buhrman at teh Mighty Wurlitzer, on Apr. 18, 1971.
The program was designed to show all the possibilities of the organ. Bert played the musical score to the showing of a silent motion picture file "Teddy at the Throttle", featuring Gloria Swanson and Wallace Berry and a series of the sing along slides popular in theatres in the 1920's.
In 1968, Bert's folk opera, "The Bald Knobber" was produced and received with acclaim throughout the mid-west. Bert played the entire organ score for the production.

1717 I13399  Helen graduated from the U. of I in 1916, where she also was a campus leader - president of the Y.W.C.A., Jr. Phi Beta Kappa and a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She did graduate work at Columbia U. in the field of Social Work, after which she began her teaching career. At that time it was unusual for a married woman to teach. Except for a few years off, when her daughter was young, she continued until 1963, having been on the faculty of Vassar, Simmons, the U. of Chicago, Northwestern, Borat and Kendall Colleges. She has a Ph. D. in Economics from the U. of Chicago acquired in 1928. She has authored 3 books and a series of articles on social security legislation.

1718 I13400  Elinor is a graduate of Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. She received her master's in African History from the U. of Wisconsin. From July 1962 till November 1963, she served in the Foreign Service in the American Embassy in Libreville, Gabon, West Africa. Elinor edits the quarterly journal and does library work at the African Institute in Geneva, Switzerland. They live in an old manor house just across the Swiss border in France, built about 1590.

1719 I13401  Rene' graduated from Princeton. His father was with Bell Telephone Labs and his mother an art teacher - a native of France. After the father's retirement a few years ago, he and his wife and her 96 year old mother, moved back to southern France.
Rene' obtained his master's from the U. of Chicago. He and Elinor met in Gabon, where he worked for two years as chief of pedagogical research for the Gabonese Ministry of Education. He is presently teaching at the Aftrican Institute in Geneva, Switzerland, which gives advanced training to selected Africans from the French speaking countries.

1721 I13405  Fred is a graduate of St. Louis University. Member of the Nastional Guard. He works for the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center U.S. Air Force where he manages Cartographic programs related to new methods and equipment for producing charts and maps. 
1722 I13408  Barber - St. Louis, Mo. 
1723 I13411  Helen was for 15 years employed by Antonio Bank, Antonio, Mo. She now is Mortgage Banker for Geo. C. Doering Inc., St. Louis, Mo. They live in Imperial, Mo. 
1724 I13412  Kenneth is retired and they recently moved to Christopher, Illinois. (1972)

1728 I13416  Dennis attended Southeast Mo. State college and has a degree in Marketing & Business Administration. He is a member of the National Guard. 
1729 I13417  Myra is a surgical nurse who graduated from Research Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., in 1968. 
1730 I13420  Doctor's Receptionist. 
1731 I13422  Lloyd was in the Navy during W. W. II from Nov. 1943 - Dec. 1945. He is a meat buyer for A & P tea Co. Has been employed by A & P 40 years. 
1732 I13423  Joe was in the Navy 15 years. Is now meat inspector for the Federal Government. They live in the Los Angeles area. 
1733 I13424  Sheryl graduated from Elmhurst in June of 1967 and was a teacher of Elementary Education in Plymouth and Culver, Indiana. 
1734 I13428  Jon attended the U. of Illinois - Graduate of James Millikin U. He spent 2 years in the army during the Korean Conflict, being stationed in Korea and Japan. After he returned, he married Jacqueline, who also is a graduate of James Millikin U., Decatur, Illinois. They live in Lee's Summit, MO., where Jon is with Western Electric Co.

Geroge owned a music store in Decatur, Illinois, until 1970. Recently accepted a position with theChampaign News Gazette. They now live in Champaign, Illinois.

1737 I13434  Thomas attended the University of Arizona. He is publisher of the Lovelock Miner, a weekly newspaper in Lovelock, Nevada. They live in Gardnerville, Nevada. 
1738 I13435  They live in Torrance, Ca. Joe is in school and Betsy works for the County of Los Angeles. 
1739 I13436  Dave is an Accountant - graduate of the U. of Arizona. They live in Tuscon, Arizona. 
1740 I13443  John attended the U. of N. Dakota, Grand Forks - member of Sigma Chi. Graduate of George Washington U., Washington, D. C., Comptroller Am. Air Lines, Tuscon, Arizona. 
1741 I13445  Helen is a registered nurse, having trained at Evangelical Hospital, Chicago. Graduated June 6, 1929. 
1742 I13446  Maxine received her B.A. from Carlton Colelge, June 12, 1964, and M.A. from the U. fo Chicago, September 4, 1970. She is Librarian at the U. of Chicago. 
1743 I13447  David attended Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, for 1 1/2 years - has attended Northwestern University night school several years and is now working on a M.B.A. degree at the University of Chicago. 
1744 I13450  Bernice is a registered nurse - graduate of Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, Illinois. Lives in Colorado Springs where she is employed as a nurse by Colorado College Health center. 
1745 I13451  Joanne has a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from teh U. of Colorado. 
1746 I13452  Russell is a graduate of the U. of Colorado. He is in the Marine Air Corp and served in Chu Lai Vietnam as a helicopter pilot for 13 months (1967-68) attaining teh rank of Captain. Upon his return he took jet pilot training at Klugsville, Texas. In February 1972 he was sent to Japan where he is flying twin engine cargo planes to various areas. 
1747 I13453  Jean has an associate degree from Adams State College. 
1748 I13454  Gary is a native of Holdridge, Nebraska - attended a Specialist School in Omaha and is now a fender and body man. They live in Englewood, a suburb of Denver. 
1749 I13458  Carol was from Milton, Florida, and worked as a dental assistant before marriage. 
1750 I13459  Bill is a native of Las Animas, Colorado, and a graduate of Adams State. He is a teacher at Sidney, Nebraska - working toward a master's in Special Ed.
