| 1416 | I11652 | There is a difference of opinion as to Marie's last name. A granddaughter believes her name was Meier. She bases this on the fact that she had an uncle named Meier, who she always thought was her mother's brother. I have not been able to find a record of the marriage of Marie Meier to Frederick Hoffman and do find one of Maria Volkmann to F. W. Hoffman in St. Paul's Ev. Church records in Nashville, Illinois, with dates corresponding to what we believe to be the approximate date of their marriage and other dates seeming to be correct. I am inclined to believe the uncle could have been a brother-in-law or the mother could have been married twice. St. Paul's records show the marriage on August 11, 1865 of F. W. Hoffman to Maria Volkmann. They also show the death of Maria Hoffman (nee Volkmann) on February 5, 1870. These records also provide the following information - child of Fr. Wilhelm and Mary Hoffman died Feb. 17, 1870 (Relatives confirm that there were 2 children born to this union one of whom died in infancy). We have the date of the birth of George as Jan. 10, 1867, together with the fact that he was three when his mother died and the date of F. W.'s second marriage to Caroline Wiese on April 23, 1891. All these dates seem to indicate tome that her maiden name was Volkmann. Frederick and Marie were the parents of two children - one died in infancy - George lived to grow up. | 1417 | I11655 | Herman, son of Johann Ernst Heinrich Buhrman, known as Henry Buhrman Sr., was born in Unterlubbe, Kries Minden, westfalen, Konigreich Preuszen, Germany. The family left Germany in 1852, coming to Nashville via New Orleans and St. Louis. the trip took 9 weeks and 4 days and was made by steamboat, railroad, and horse-drawn wagon. The family brought with it a melodeon which was made in Stuttgart, Germany by the Philip trayser Co. and is still in its original condition. It now graces the Washington County Historical Museum, together with other items from the Buhrman household - a gift of Bert Buhrman Jr., his great grandson, and other members of the family. Early in life Herman entered the mercantile business and in later years was appointed postmaster of Nashville, during Pres. McKinley's administration. His father was one of the founders of St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Nashville, where he also was a member and served as an officer. August and Martha lived in Aviston, Illinois, where he practiced medicine, having graduated on March 4, 1875, from Missouri Medical College, St. Louis, Mo. His license to practice in the State of Illinois is dated 1877. Both died at an early age, just six months apart. He was 33 and she 30. Carl went by the name of Fred here in the states. It is the descendents of Fred, to which Charles and Ted Fieker belong. Charles has researched this line. Fred came to American in 1864. He is buried on the Maple Grove Methodist Cemetery, Mt. Vernon. Mo. Passport dated June 29, 1864. Some question of authenticity. Carl Frederich was 46 years old when applied for passport. His wife is listed as Martha Maria nee Kertz. Two children listed on this passport are Carl Friederich Ludwig born Aug. 26, 1851 and Carl Frederich Wilhelm born Aug. 30, 1863. This passport belongs to Ted Fieker family. Ted and Charles now living in St. Louis, Mo. (1997) Parents are assumed to be Friederidh Wilhelm Stallmann and Catharine Margaretha Ilsabein Husemeier. In 1978 Ted Fieker sent the following information to Fred and Carolyn Fieker: Friederich Fieker, born 1817 Minden, Germany. Immigrated 1864. Died 1893. Children with 1st wife Luise Lesemann were Christian, Henry, Louis, August, Caroline, and Maria. Children with 2nd wife Martha Marea Kertz were Maris (Horstman), Lydia (Wiese), Martha (Westerman), Anna (Blubaums) and Nina (Hagemeyer). |
