  Letha eloped from High School with Otis. After death of Leatha, Armeda and Charles Illias, their Aunt and Uncle, raised the children. The children were treated as their own and they all had a high school education. Since Grandmother Thomason was in such poor health, Armeda practically raised Leatha as her own until Gilmore was born.
