Notes - In 1922 John Owens and son, Crittendon, started out west to California. They stopped in Oklahoma to see John's nephew, William and family....It was not long afterward that word arrived from California that John had found work and the opportunity was great for others. (See William Nathan Owens for further notes.)
p. 562 History of Stone County Missouri
His marriage to Cathern Parlee "Kitty" Gore was a double ceremony with his brother Hugh.
The 1880 Census lists John as living between his brothers, Daniel and James Owens. he lived close tohis mother-in-law until her death, at the age of 96, in 1917, at teh home of Crittendon and Pansy Owens, across the White River at the Jones settlement, near Lampe, Missouri. She was visiting there prior to her intentions of going up near Jenkins (between Shell Knob and Aurora, Barry County, Missouri) to visit Walter and Kate.
John and Kitty moved to Butte County, California, in 1920; and he lived 5 years before his death, 17 Sept., 1925, at Thermal, California. He is buried in the cemetery plot, at Sutter City, California, that his son-in-law, Furman Knight, had purchased at the death of his child.
Kitty moved back to Stone County, Missosuri, to live with her daughter, Sara Amanda Knight, until her death 5 March, 1935, at Cape Fair. She is buried at Cape Fair. John and Kitty were the parents of 8 children.
