    One Hundred Pounds Reward

    Run Away, or Stolen from the subscriber, the 19 th of September last , a Mulatto fellow, named Dick, of a middle Size, a little Bow kneed, a small Scar
    on his left Knee, and about Twenty Years of Age; can work at the Shoe maker's Business. - He has endeavoured to pass by the Name of John, or Tom Macklin. The last Accounts of him were from the Head of Tyger River, where he was seen with a Couple of noted Villains, George Bennet and Joseph Dotey, who have now a Hue and Cry after them. Any Person that will secure the said Slave, and deliver him to me on Broad River, near the Fish Ford, shall receive the above Reward. -He is a remarkable Whistler, and plays on the Violin.

    1789 July 4 South Carolina, Joseph Doughty of Greeneville Co. sold to Reuben Barratt 214 acres in the Sink Hole Fork of the Tygar River boardering Thomas Benson, Michael Miller. Signed Allen Gowan. Witnesses were Thomas Ponder & Stephen Dill.

    1789 Aug 7 South Carolina, Joseph of Greeneville Co. sold to Reuben Barrett 100 acres of land on Wildcat Creek a branch of South Tigar River. This land was originally given to Doughty by Gov. William Moultie. Witnesses were: Jeremiah Dutton (Doughty?), William and Rachel Silversides.

    1790, Sept 26 Georgia, Joseph and Nancy/Ann Doughty of Elbert Co., Ga sold to Samuel Sewell 135 acres on Falling Creek butting Thos. Bryant, William Allen, Fulton, Samuel Sewell, and Thos. Harbin's lands. Witnesses were: Wm Barnett(Barrett), J.P.

    1792, April 25 South Carolina, John Perkins sold to Joseph Doughty (of Pendleton Dist., SC) 140 acres on Connoross Creek, water of Keowee River, butting Solomon Perkins, and unknown lands, including the plantation where Joseph Doughty now lives. Witnesses: John C Kilpatrick, Alexr. Kilpatrick, John Clark Kilpatrick made oath to Wm. Nevill, J.P.

    1810, Jan 5 South Carolina, Joseph Doughty (Sr.) gave his will in Pendleton Dist, SC. Gives names of his children, Jeremiah Doughty, Joseph Doughty, Sarah Kilpatrick, Rhody Clayton, and Nancy Barratt. Also, lists his wife as Nancy Doughty. Executors are: James Kilpatrick, Jeremiah Doughty, and Joseph Doughty. Witnesses: J.C. Kilpatrick and Thos. B. Singleton.

    In the name of God Amen, I Daniel Doughty planter of Pendleton District & State of South Carolina being sick and week in Body but of sound & disposing mind, memory, and understanding thatnks be to God for the same do make this my last will and Testament in manner & form following that is to say I order my Executors hereafter to be named pay all my Just debts, and I give and bequeath first unto my dearly beloved wife Rachel Doughty one feather bed with the furniture belonging to the same and her wearing clothes and no other part of my Estates. Also I give and bequeath unto my two Sons Joseph and Laban [Daniel Jr.] all every other part of my Estate.

    Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my Father Joseph Doughty Jeremiah Doughty and Alexander Kilpatrick Executros of this my last will and Testament and I do hereby make void all other wills by me heretofore made and do declare this to be my last will and Testament. In Witness whereof i have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Twenty fourth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & four.

    State of South Carolina. By his Excellency Paul Hamilton Governor and Commander in Chief in & over the state aforesaid. A Proclamation. Whereas I have received information that Daniel Doughty late of the District of Pendleton has been most barberously and wickedly destroyed by his wife Rachel , his step-father Laban Oakley, & a certain John Andrews, who disregarding all social, moreal, & religious ties did most treacherously & cruelly combine and conspire together and did infuse into the drink and food and medicine of the said Daniel Doughty repeated doses of vatobane or arsenic of the effects of which after the mose excrutiating tortures & lamentable sufferings the said Daniel Doughty did at last die. And whereas the said Rachel the wife of the said Daniel Doughty and the said John Andrews have both been committed to Gaol under strong eviences of their guilt but Laban Oakley the step-father as aforesaid who is believed to have been the first mover of this wicked conspiracy has fled & Eludes the

    Daniel (senior) Doughty's will of 1804 mentions two sons, Joseph and Laban. In 1805, Laban's name was changed to Daniel Laban Milton Doty due to Laban Oakley's (father in law to Daniel senior) involvement in the poisoning of Daniel senior.

    Daniel and brother Joseph moved to Tuscaloosa County, Alabama at a young age. They acquired land and lived there for a short time before moving to Mississippi. Daniel settled in Attala County, and there he engaged in farming and cattle raising. On his land was a large spring of water, which still bears his name today; Doty Springs. Daniel adopted the Doty spelling.

    Daniel married BURCHFIELD Lucinda on 6 Jan 1826 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Lucinda was born in 1805 in Pendleton District, South Carolina; died in 1887 in Attala County, Mississippi; was buried in 1887 in Attala County, Mississippi. [Group Sheet]
