Chris Alfeldt was born in Germany and came to this county in his youth, settling in Washington County.
Mr. Alfeldt was married to Hannah Luebke. They were the parents of one son, John R. Alfeldt. Mrs. Alfeldt died at an early age. Mr. Alfeldt died in 1923.
Tehir son, John R. Alfeldt, was born on August 5, 1875. John married Helena Roethemeyer and they were the parents of three children - two daughters, Adella and Anna, and one son, Edward. They lived on a farm near Oakdale. His wife, Helena, was born May 29, 1878 and died October 1, 1928. John died April 12, 1966.
Their son, Edward H., was born July 23, 1897 in Plum Hill Township. As a child he moved with his parents to Oakdale Township. Edward H. Alfeldt married Irene Frieman on October 20, 1931. Irene was born June 2, 1902 in Oakdale Township. She was the only daughter born to Henry and Waltena (Reuter) Frieman.
For a number of years Edward operated a threshing rig and also a saw mill. At the time of his passing in 1943 he was Highway Commissioner for Oakdale Township.
Edward and Irene were the parents of four sons, Enloe, Cecil, Verdell and Edward Harold.
Enlow married Sandra Cantrill in the Greenville Baptist Church on february 4, 1967. They live in Oakdale. Enloe is employed in the maintenance department at Menard Prison. They have three sons, Jason, Timothy and Andrew.
Cecil married Myrene Carson on July 8, 1972 in the Reformed Presbyterian Church at Oakdale and they live in Oakdale. They have one son, Gregory, and one daughter, Karen.
Verdell married Patsy Sue Nickolson on August 31, 1963 in the First Baptist Church at Christopher. They live in Marissa. They have two sons, Jimmie and Danny.
Cecil and Verdell are in partnership. They own and operate four coin-operated laundries and two car washes. they also operate a Christmas Tree Farm.
Edward Harold married Ruth Clark March 31, 1962 in the Nine Mile Baptist Church at Tamaroa. They have two daughters, Sara and Debra, and live in East Peoria. Edward Harold is employed in the office of the Caterpillar Tractor Company.
