Confederate Soldiers Pension Application, Catoosa County, Georgia
Co B, 42nd Ga Regiment
"...he has a gun shot flesh wound through right leg, bullet entering from of leg in below groin, vericose veins on both legs, rhumatism in both knees. May 15th 1864, Battle of New Hope Church near Marietta, Ga. He was shot down during the battle and left on the ground & was captured by the Yanks. Sent to Camp Doughlas, a prisoner of war."
(Oddly enough, Jesse's mother, Amanda tried to apply for a pension of Harmon Stapp, Jesse's father, and put down that Harmon had served in Company B, 43rd Georgia. In all reality, Harmon served in the 4th Georgia Cavalry and Jesse served in Company B, 42nd Infantry. It could be contributed to Amanda's old age, or simply she was hoping to use her son, Jesse's service to draw a pension off of, rather than her husband's service.)
