Notes |
After the war, during the early 1870's there was incident involving the Stapp and Wester families. Jim Wester terrorized the Stapps by walking through the dogtrot houses at night after a drinking bout. John Stapp, son of Joseph, and his brother in law, Taylor Hobbs, got a gun and one night shot and killed him. His body was witnessed by young Sidney Daffron, who passed down the story, which was confirmed to a researcher by Roy Wester. The Stapp family soon afterwards moved to Drew County, Arkansas, but no charges were ever filed against Stapp. Interestingly, Taylor Hobbs moved to Tiger, Georgia, changed his name to McKay, and did not reveal the story to his family until his deathbed.
