Notes - "This sudden withdrawal resulted in an abondonment of the pickets, who were quickly overrun by the enemy, resulting in the loss of several men....Two brothers, Isaac L. Herring (A) and Hines H. Herring (A), were in the detail. when the firing began, all fell to the ground. After the charging enemy soldiers disappeared, Hines, who had pretended to be wounded, got up expecting the others to do likewise. But everyone except he and J.L. Gover (A), who was slightly wounded, were dead. They finally managed to reach safety."
