Notes - Clara attended the old "cow-bell" school and was only 14 when her mother had a stroke which paralyzed her and made her an invalid for the last 10 years of her life. Her father passed away 5 years before her mother of what was believed to be cancer. Clara continued to live in the home and help care for her mother till she died and then her brothers until they married or left home. She then held a position in the local post office and the year before her marriage went to Vandalia to live with her sister Ida and work in the Atkinson-Brink Store.
