Lester Hake
Lester V. Hake, 85, of Nashville, passed away at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003 at his residence.
Born on November 9, 1917 in Huegely, he was the son of Elmer and Dorothea (Dueker) Hake. He married Willa McGough on December 29, 1940 in Carbondale. She preceded him in death on January 19, 1978.
He is survived by three sons, James L. Hake and fiance Aureile Sprout of Lambertville, New Jersey, Dr. Ronald L. Hake and wife Faythe of Morton, and Charles A. Hake of Nashville; two granddaughters.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley Hake, and two sisters, Laverna Gewe and Olivia Hake.
Mr. Hake was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He was teacher and coach at Nashville Grade School, retiring in 1977. He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as a coach and later as a fan.
He was the recreation director for the Memorial Park District for many years. The baseball field at the park is named Lester Hake Field in his honor.
Lester was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville where he was in the Chancel Choir for 63 years, a member of the United Methodist Men, and past member of the Nashville Lions Club.
Funeral services are being held Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Herath officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Nashville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Grace United Methodist Church and will be received at the Styninger-Krupp Funeral Home in Nashville.
