  • Notes
    • Winfield Scott Landis was born May 30, 1862, in Lawrence County, Illinis, and died in Vincennes, Indiana, October 29, 1908. He was married to Miss Belle Vandament, September 14, 1884, in Lawrence County, Illinois. To this union were born ten children, nine of whom survive their father, a daughter having died in infancy. In his young manhood Brother Landis was converted to God and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which he remained a member until his death. In February, 1906, while on a bed of affliction, he prayed through to a definite religious experience and expressed an assurance of his acceptance with God. A short time before his departure he told a brother that he was prepared to die and said that it was well with his soul. He leaves a wife, six sons, three daughters, an aged mother, four brothers and a large circle of relatives to mourn their loss. A younger brother, Rev. Simon Landis, is the pastor of our church at St. Francisville, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted by the writer, at the home, October 30, 1908. Scripture used, Psalm 23.
