listed 10 living children and their birth dates. Mar 4, 1898.

Claimant states that he is 78 years of age and a resident of near Grundy P.O.
and that he enrolled at Camp Joe Holt Ind 9th July 1861 as a private in Co. F
2nd Ky Cavalry in the service of the United States during the Civil War and
that he also served in W. P. Ingram's Co. D Ky State Vol Halls gap Battalion.
He had light complexion, blue eyes, light hair,, was 6' 1" tall and a farmer,
born May 29, 1841. He "is a pensioner under cert. no. 367911. Current address
is Shopville, Pulaski Co., Ky.
g) Physicians Affadavit Proof of Physical Disability Pulaski Co. Ky.
In the Pension Claim No. 367.911 of James F. Herrin late of Co F 2nd Ky Vol
Cavalry. Jas A. Bante of Somerset made oath that he had treated James F.
Herrin for chronic diarhea at intervals of every 2 or 3 months accompanied by
portruding piles, palpitation of the heart made worse by the least bodily
exertion and that he performed not more than half a man labor. Nov 16, 1906.
h) Declaration for Widows Pension, Pulaski Co. Ky Sept 5, 1912 by
Elisabeth J. Herrin aged 61 a resident of Shopville, Pulaski Co., Ky, a widow
of James F. Herrin who enrolled at Stanford July 9, 1861 as a private in Co F
2nd Regmt Ky Cavalry and honorably discharged Oct 12, 1864. He also served as
Sergt. of Capt. W. P. Seagram Co. D Halls Gap Regmt of Ky State Volunteers from
Mar 1, 1865 serving 1 year or during the war. She was married under
the name of Elisabeth J. Randall at James Randall's home on Nov 1,
1866 by Josiah Claunch and had not been previously married. That said soldier
died Aug 20, 1912 at his home at Shopville, Ky. That her post office address
is Shopville, Pulaski Co. Ky.. Sep 5, 1912.

!NOTE: John Clark was the husband of Nancy Herrin; this would make John Clark
the uncle of John Herrin since William is the son of Shadrack, Nancy
is the daughter of Shadrack and John is the son of William.

When Rebecah Herrin married Singleton Earp, the bond was signed by John
Herrin, and the marriage was consented to by William Herrin, one more fact
linking John as William's son. The signature of William Herrin on the marriage
consent matched William Herrin's signature on his own marriage bond to Sally
Evans.

It is history that Shopville, KY was named after a blacksmith shop there
(Pulaski County In Retrospect). It is likely that since John Herrin lived in
Shopville, that it was named because of his shop, since he is a wheelwright.
(or his father, William's, shop).

Pulaski County, Kentucky Census). ca 1784 birth date from the 1805 Tax List of
Pulaski Co., KY. In 1804 he is not listed, and in 1805 he is listed as male 21
or over. Since Shadrack consented for his marriage in March 1805, William turned
21 after March of 1805 which makes him born after March of 1784. This agrees
with the latest Census birth date of 1784, and the Shadrick Herin 1790 Census
age of 1 male under 16 (1790-16=1774 to 1790).

Evans Paymaster for sd. Ridgmt. deltted the fines interest in sd. Ridgment
for the year 1829 & 1830 and and after deducting the Sheriffs delinquent
List from the assessment of said years and after deducting Sheriffs and
Paymasters com for Collecting & paying amt. there apears due on sd. years
the sum of $12.55 that sum together withe $31.75 which appears of bean in
the hands of sd. Josiah Evans Paymaster as afforesd. on the 18th day of
January 1828. as per Settlement made and recorded in Pulaski County Court
by Col. John Whiles then Col. to the said ridgment making in all $44.30
which sum that remains of $44.30 it appears has has been Drawn out of
P.J. Evans hands in the discharge of Claims against sd. Ridgment and there
is further Claimes against sd. Ridgment now lodged with sd. Josiah Evans
Paymaster aforesd. to the amt. of $50.20 & no funds to discharge them with
as follows, one in favor of E. J. Buchhanon adjutant & provost Martial for
the sum of $27.50 for duties rendered in 1824-5-6-7-8. The one other claim
in favor of E. J. Buchhanon for $13.50 for services and another claim in
favor of E. Buchhanon for $13.50 for service Rendered in 1829-1830 & 1831.
one in favor of Henry Sipple for $8.25 acredited $2.50 beig. credited on
sd. Claime.

6. James Bobbitt & William Herring requested the Court to have
commissioners appointed to convey certain parcels of land that had been
promised by James Reece before his death and had been paid for by Bobbitt and
Herring. Continued until next Court.

5. William Herrin appeared before the Court and offered proof that James
Reece, deceased, had made an obligation to transfer him a certain track of
land. After due deliberation, the court ordered the land to be transferred
to William Herring and appointed John Newby, Elias Poston and John Chesney
to secure the transfer.

!LINEAGE: There exists two possible leads
for paternal identification:
1) Shadrick (Shadrick Herrin) (wife Rebecca)
2) William Herrin (wife Jane Stevenson)
Elimination of William Herrin (h/o Jane Stephenson) as ancestor:
It was assumed that William Herrin of Shopville, Pulaski Co. Ky may be
William S. Herring of Rockingham Co., Virginia. This cannot be the case because
William S. Herrin was the executor of his mother's, Elizabeth Stevenson
Herring's, will in Rockingham Co., VA in 1820, and William Herrin was well
settled in Pulaski County by 1800, he was bondsman of Sarah Herrin's and
Benjamin Stogsdill's marriage on 20 Jun 1800.
Therefore, I'll rule out any connection to the William S. Herrin
of Rockingham Co. VA. Information on Willam S. Herrin was found in "Settlers by
the Long Grey Trail" (Harrison, 1935). Further proof is that John Heron in the
1880 Pulaski Co., Ky Census lists his father from North Carolina and his mother
from Tennessee.

!VOCATION: Pulaski County, Ky Will Book 7ii page 934 Peter Ruark to Isaac Hayes
Heirs, mentions the first 68 acre tract beginning at "where William Herrin's
old shop stood." He was probably a wheelwright as was his son, John. Perhaps
Shopville was named for the existence of this shop?

!LINEAGE:
A family record sheet was sent to Elston Herrin from Emma Barrett Reeves of
Nacogdoches, TX showing Joseph born in 1786 and with children John, Bathsheba
(or Bashaba), Sarah, Martha and Phoebe. This coincides well with the family of
12 for which Pulaski Co., KY birth records were found. Christian Jackson lists
Joseph Jackson in her will as her grandchild without specifying whose child he
is. However, Mrs. Reeves points out that it is probably Samuel, Jr. or Elijah.
There is an Elijah who settled in Hopkins Co., KY. There is a Samuel shown in
Fayette Co., VA in 1787, which was later to become part of Kentucky. This
Joseph Jackson apparently had a brother named John Jackson, living with him in
Pulaski Co. Temporarily, or until proven, I am going to assume that Joseph
Jackson's father was Samuel Jackson, Jr. and try to procure the documentation.

!MARRIAGE:
1988 Mormon IGI Records for North Carolina show a Joseph Jackson married
Margaret Miller 02 JUN 1819 in Guilford County. The dates are impossible, but
close. I need to check the original records to see if this possibility is a
fact. (page 6750); Batch MS16022 Ser. Sht. 2190.

!CENSUS: Pulaski Co., Ky 1870 Census
Joseph Jackson was 83 and living with James and Phoebe Burdine in the
Pulaski Co. KY 1870 Census.

!MILITARY: From Tombstone located in Pulaski Co., KY (photo on file L. Herrin)
Joseph Jackson was in Co. H. 32nd. Inf. Div. Corp. in the War of 1812.

!BURIAL:
This is on his tombstone which is located in Whitaker Cemetery in Burdine
Valley, Pulaski Co., KY on old Highway 80. His stone, along with his son's
is located against the west fence near the center of the cemetery. A picture
is on file (l. Herrin) of both tombstones, and a picture of the cemetery.

Lincoln Co. Will Records (Lincoln Co. in 1799 included Pulaski Co.) has a
copy of Joseph Jackson's will in Will Book #1 Pages 207-210, recorded 14 NOV
1797.
This is probably the Joseph Jackson who died at Boone's Fort, however. I
have a copy of the posessions sent to me through Stanford Court Clerk.
Since Joseph Jackson would have only been 11 years old 1n 1797, this will
is obviously not his. Pulaski Co.

This Joseph Jackson is assumed to be the Joseph Jackson of Moore Co., NC
since the birth dates coincide.

JOSEPH married MONTGOMERY MILLY. MILLY was born in 1786 in Tennessee; died after 1860 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. [Group Sheet]

!CENSUS: In the Pulaski Co., KY 1860 Census Milly is listed as 74 years old from
what appears to be Tennessee. This could be N.C., or even Tennessee when it was
N.C.

Peyton Randolph is buried in the Peyton Randall Cemetery dedicated to him

PEYTON married RUARK ELIZABETH on 15 May 1818 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. ELIZABETH (daughter of RUARK TIMOTHY CAPT. and MCHARGUE SARAH) was born in 1798 in Caswell County, North Carolina; died on 15 Apr 1853 in Pulaski County, Kentucky; was buried in Apr 1853 in Shopville, Pulaski County, Kentucky.
