William Stapp was a blacksmith at Trout Creek (Ragland) where he met Nancy Wester Holloman, widow of James Holloman, daughter of Edward Wester. William had helped found the Primitive Baptist Church of that community. William and Nancy began an affair, so they ran off to Mississippi, wher he was soon arrested on charges of child stealing, having taken one of his children, filed by his wife. William wrote and asked Milly and the children to come join him there. Nancy was still in the area. After sometime William abandoned Milly, fled with Nancy and went to Fayetteville, Arkansas, and had a second family.
