    Notes:

Stephen died before sixth child, Letha Ann, was born. Nancy then married Milburn Monroe Terry, whose wife--Stephen's sister Rachel Lavina--had died giving birth to their fifth child, Leonard Elwood Owens. Together, Nancy Caroline Badgett and Milburn Monroe Terry had a child.
I (wlgines) am confused. Leonard Elwood Owens is the fifth child of Stephen F. and Nancy Caroline Badgett Owens, not the fifth child of Milburn Monroe and Rachel Lavina Owens Terry. The above information comes from the book published by Marvin D. Owens on the Green Owens line.
Stephen's date of birth may be 1860. He may have been born in Missouri.

STEPHEN married BADGETT NANCY CAROLYN on 7 May 1882 in Barry County, Missouri; possibly Monett (per S.Bentley). NANCY (daughter of BADGET GEORGE and LANCE MATILDA) was born on 25 Jan 1862 in Verona, Barry Co., MO; died on 7 Jan 1941 in Purdy, Barry Co., MO. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

There is a remote possibility that he was born Chester Co., S.C. (1830 census) in section that later became N.C.
He was a Wagon Maker 1850 in NC; laborer same census in TN; Farmer in MO after 1860.
    Religion: Methodist

    Dear Friend: (Leonard Carey)
I appreciate so much the material you have sent me especially since we are not sure that Wiley Catholic Owens has a connection with William King Owens. However, it is fascinating to me. For quite some time I have worked on the Gines line. An old trunk which became ours on the death of Herald's parents gave us much information. There were family Bibles, personal Bibles (over 100 years old), birth certificates dated 1843, marriage licenses, pictures and old postal cards. I've gone through them many times. Our name was originally spelled Geines. There are some old postal cards addressed to Herald's grandmother as Mrs. Hannah Gines, others to Mrs. Hannah Geines, so we know that somewhere in here some one became lazy and dropped the "e". About 1976 we located the graves for his grandparents and they were both spelled Geines. I have also put together some facts on Grandmother Taylor, the Philiberts, from articles Aunt Dolly has sent me.
But back to the Owens. You will notice I have returned the set on Wiley Catholic Owens with some corrections. However, I have also made copies for #7 Aunt Rosa, #8 Uncle Opal, #9 Aunt Lois, and for #2 Charles Wiley Owens second marriage which I forgot the first time. Daddy was married in March, died in November, and his son was born the following March. Pauline married again when their son was quite small to a Washington man, but his work was in Pittsburg, Pa. They then went there to live so we were practically strangers.
I have written to Charles and Jane asking for data but have received no answer. A neighbor friend looked at records at the court house for me for most I have on their second marriage. Names are from pictures.
I have also written to Aunt Goldie, Uncle Boots wife, but no answer. If I ever get that complete it will be quite long.
I'm enclosing some money. I'm sure it will not pay for your work but postal rates are certainly not cheap. Thank you again for what you have done for me and are doing.
    Always,
    Lorene Gines

P.S. I have had a copy of this set made for I wanted especially the note at the end. I understand that Ft. Wayne, Indiana has one of the best libraries and that is where our son lives. Hopefully we can go there and stay long enough that I can see what I can find. Herald usually doesn't want to stay because of work, gardening, etc.
If I get word from Aunt Goldie do you still want it? I'm not sure of what I
have down for #1 Uncle Boots. I've always known Aunt Goldie's mother as Mrs. Jagers but have been told her father's name was Tinker. I hope the grandchildren are in the right places.

  1. 8.  OWENS JAMES was born in 1797 in Rutherford, NC (son of OWENS Thomas and MCCRAY Elizabeth); died in 1845 in Warren, TN.

    Notes:

James Owens is presumed to be the father of Green (John) Owens. This presumption is backed, but not positively proved, by the research of a number of concerned genealogists. The presumption is that he moved from Rutherford County, NC to Warren County, TN, time unknown. However, according to the Warren Co. Deed Book G, dated April 1828-October 1853, a James Owens bought land in Warren County on July 7, 1821 from Thomas Hopkins. The main basis for the presumptions made about James Owens is study of U.S. Census Reports from 1820 through 1850.

Perhaps several older children not yet found in records.
