    Graveside services for Ovid U. Vermillion, 89, of 907 Central, Monett, longtime Monett resident and retired Frisco employee who died at 1:55 a.m. yesterday at St. Vincent's Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Monett IOOF Cemetery with Rev. charles Shoults officiating.
    Military rites will be conducted by Monett Hobbs-Anderson Post 91 of the American Legion with services and burial under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home.
    The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Buchanan Chapel and will be at the Cecil Hinkle home, 501 Dairy, at other times.
    A memorial has been established to the Diabetes Foundation.
    Mr. Vermillion was born December 22, 1892, in Monett, and had resided here most of his lifetime. He was married to Rosa M. Owens on January 19, 1925, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and she survives. He was employed by the Frisco Railroad as a switchman for a number of years until his retirement in 1958.
    He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Monett Hobbs-Anderson Post 91 of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.
    Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Dorothea Staffeld of Royal Oak, Michigan, and Mrs. Ruth Walker of Provo, Utah; two sisters, Mrs. Fern McCracken of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Mae Smith of Brazil, Indiana; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
    One son, Kenneth, preceded him in death on September 7, 1981.

    Per Dorthea Vermillion Staffeld, Rosa and Ovid were married twice. They honored the date of the first time which was January 19, 1925. The Judge's license wasn't valid so they married the second time April 11, 1925, Cassville, MO. They kept this secret.

    O. U. Vermillion and Rosa Owens were married January 18, 1925, in Oklahoma City, Okla. They are both lifelong residents of Monett, and Vermillion retired from the Frisco Railroad in 1957.
    They have three children, Mrs. Ruth Walker of Provo, Utah, Kenneth Vermillion of Monett and Dorothea Staffeld of Detroit, Michigan, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
    Their children will host an open house in their honor from two until five o'clock Sunday afternoon, January 19, at the Kenneth Vermillion Home, 4 Hillcrest Drive.
    All relatives and friends are invited to attend, and the omission of gifts is requested.

    Death Certificate gives dob as June 13, 1864 and gravestone gives dob as July 13, 1864. Death Certificate says birthplace unknown. A son's marriage record gives Seligman, Mo. as their home location. He was a carpenter living in Monett, Mo. for 30 years. His tombstone says "Not My Will but Thine be Done". According to Sonja Bentley's notes, Catholic Wiley and Ocie lived in the Owens Bend area of Stone Co. Verified by "History of Stone County, Missouri--Stone County Hist. Soc., 1989, p. 555.

    Wiley Catholic Green Shelby Owens was of the Owens Bend area, Stone County, MO, and was a carpenter.

    In a letter to Lorene Gines from Lou Davis dated July 15, 1985 she states that her mother, Helen Owens Gaines, said that grandpa was born, married and died on July 13. The birth and death dates may be correct, but we have a totally different marriage date.

    Spelling may be Ossie Artelia Parmelia Palestine Moudy. (Oscie, Ossie, Osce, Ocelia, Parmalia, Permillia). She died in childbirth and was buried with the child. Her mother died when she was real tiny and she was raised by Grandmother Riddle, her mother's mother, Martha (Riddle) Moudy. She was a half sister to Dora Summers. There was not quite 2 yrs. between them but they weren't together until good sized girls.
