*"Allen acquired his land holdings in many different ways. Afte r his return from England in 1725, young Allen purchased ten-tho usand acres of land from William Penn, the son of the founder o f Pennsylvania, for £741.15. [40] These lands, located above t he forks of the Delaware at Easton, had not as yet been purchas ed from the Indians. [41] James Logan, the proprietary secreta ry, objected to the sale. He believed that once the Indians fou nd out that Allen had claimed the area, they would raise the pur chase price. Penn had wasted the colony's money in order to rew ard Allen with prime real estate without any competition from ot her colonists, since the colony did not even own the land yet. Allen profited quickly from the sale, surveying the land, the n dividing and selling it in small lots.
