    There is a Christopher Harrison listed in the 1840 census records for Sumner Co, TN that was noted by Bob Smith, but the ages and number of children for this Christopher Harrison do not match what we know about our Christopher Harrison so this census record is clearly not the right record for our family.

    Family is listed in 1855 Kansas Census in Leavenworth Co, KS. This was a list of voters of the 16th election district of the territory of Kansas, taken January and February, 1855. Christopher Harrison is listed as CC Harrison, from MO. Christopher is listed as 40 years old.

    The following is a copy of the resolutions published in the Kansas Herald on the 25th of May, 1855:

    Public Meeting.

    "At a meeting of the Pro-Slavery party of this city and vicinity, held on Saturday last (19th), on motion of Jarrett Todd --- ---- was called to the chair and C.C. Harrison was chosen secretary."

    "On motion of Green D. Todd, it was adopted that the proceedings of this meeting be published in the Kansas Herald, Platte Argus and all other papers friendly to the cause; after which, on motion of Samuel Burgess, the meeting adjourned. C.C. Harrison, Secretary."

    Christopher C. Harrison helped settle the Kansas Territory. It was referred to as Bloody Kansas-lots of fighting between the Pro-Slavery faction and the Free State group. There are two books that mention C.C. Harrison who was Secretary of the Pro-Slavery Committee.

    Listed in "A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans," William E. Connelley, chapter 24.

    "The Vigilance committe appointed was composed of the following named persons:

    Land Deeds for Christopher C. Harrison:

    1) Agreement filed Oct 29, 1863, recorded in Book U Page 220. Witnessed and notarized by W.S. Van Doren, Register of Deeds.

    2) Payment in full, a receipt dated Dec 6, 1856, recorded in Book O Page 71. Recorded April 27, 1860 by W.S. Van Doren, Register of Deeds.

    Received from Alexander Harrison of Leavenworth County K.T. the sum of four hundred dollars being in full for the South east quarter of Section No. 4 in Township No. 9 of Range No. 21 of the Delaware Trust lands in Kansas Territory containing one hundred and sixty acres at $2.50/acre.

    The next couple of pages have to do with Christopher C. Harrison. The top of the first page is the ending of a record. Since they didn't include the previous page, I don't know if he was selling land or what?? Here is what the last of the record says:

    ... stead and redemption laws now or hereinafter to be enforced in this state. In witness whereof the said party of the first part hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date aforesaid

    Be it remembered that on the twenty eighth day of October A.D. Eighteen hundred and sixty three before me the undersigned Justice of the Peace in and for the county and state aforesaid came Christopher C. Harrison of the county and state aforesaid who is personally known to me to be the identical person whose name is affixed to the foregoing instrument of writing as grantor and he acknowledges the same to be his own voluntary act and deed. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year last written. A. Brown J. P. {seal}

    The next record is a mortgage. Christopher C. Harrison for $500.00 mortgages 120 acres to Joseph C. Hemingray and Willard P. Gambell and promises to pay back the money plus 12 percent annual interest within 6 months. If he doesn't pay the Banking House of J. C. Hemingray and Co. when due, then he forfeits the land which is described to be part of the land he purchased in 1856. This indenture was notarized and witnessed by W. S. Van Doren. Recorded October 29th 1863 at 6 o'clock P.M. by W. S. Van Doren Register of Deeds.
