!NOTE: Memoriam and Poem by Alice Herrin, wife of Allen Custer:
    ~
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
In memory of my dear aunt Elizabeth J. Herrin.
Joyful Easter is here again and how vivid it brings to mind the event of
two years ago, for it was then that the death angel claimed my dear aunt.
She has been gone only two short years yet it seems so long, oh, so long
since I saw her smiling face or heard her welcomed voice. "Aunt Liz" had
a smile and a word of welcome for all. She was a dear good woman and her
friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She had been blessed with the
charm of true patience; had not been mad or spoke an unkind word to anyone
    for nearly thirty years.
    ~
I miss you, Aunty, how I miss you -
Friends may think the wound is
    healed;
But they little know the sorrow
That lies within my heart con-
    cealed.
    ~
How I miss your cheerful presence
In the home you loved so dear,
And my heart is filled with anquish
When I see your vacant chair.
    ~
My heart was filled with bitter sor-
    row,
    When I bade you a last adieu;
Though you cannot come to me,
I am coming home to you.
    ALICE HERRIN

VOCATION: Wheelwright. At 74 he was a chairmaker (1880 Census).

    !RESIDENCE: Shopville, Pulaski Co., Ky.

!BURIAL: Pulaski Co., KY Cemetery Records and photo of stone (on file with L.
    Herrin)

Buried in Peyton Randall Cemetery. Stone has been replaced with new one.

!NOTE: John Clark was the husband of Nancy Herrin; this would make John Clark
the uncle of John Herrin since William is the son of Shadrack, Nancy
is the daughter of Shadrack and John is the son of William.

When Rebecah Herrin married Singleton Earp, the bond was signed by John
Herrin, and the marriage was consented to by William Herrin, one more fact
linking John as William's son. The signature of William Herrin on the marriage
consent matched William Herrin's signature on his own marriage bond to Sally
    Evans.

It is history that Shopville, KY was named after a blacksmith shop there
(Pulaski County In Retrospect). It is likely that since John Herrin lived in
Shopville, that it was named because of his shop, since he is a wheelwright.
    (or his father, William's, shop).
