Listed in 1850 census records in Laurel Twp, Hocking Co, Ohio. 70 years old, born in PA, living with daughter Mary and Granddaughter Anna Roof. They are all living close to sons Phillip and Samuel and their families.

In 1860 census records for Montgomery Co, IL there is listed a John D Stump, born 1781, with his children Peter, Joel, Elizabeth, Samuel, and Eli. This would appear to be the right John Stump but it is confusing since Peter and Joel were married at the time and livng in another portion of the county with their wives and children.

5. STUMP Joel was born in 1827 in Hocking Co, Ohio; died in AFT. 1889 in Montgomery Co, IIL.
6. STUMP Mary was born in 1828 in Hocking Co, Ohio.
7. STUMP Levi was born in 1829.
8. STUMP Elizabeth was born in 1832.

Notes:

Daniel arrived at the port of Philadelphis on the ship "Richard and Mary" on September 30, 1754 from Wurtenburg, Germany or Prussia. He then went to Berks Co, PA.

"Daniel Stumpf sailed with the Richard and Mary on 9/30/1754 as it took sail from Rotterdam, then Cowes, John Moore, master with 230 freights and 6 Roman Catholics aboard." (Taken from research report done by Max Colgrove, descendant, 2002).

There is some disagreement among reseachers as to whether this is the right Daniel Stump or if it is a different Daniel Stump who took this ship.

Headstone:

Daniel Stumph was born _____, 1724, and entered into marriage on _____m leaving behind his wife and daughters, he died after a long illness on _____, 1779. He was 55 years old. Notes:

Johann Nikolaus Strasser arrived in PA about 1721. On 19 September 1738, he received a land warrent in what is now Albany Township, Berks County (then Philadelphia County). At his death in 1790, he left three sons, five daughters, and offspring by two daughters who had predeceased him. About 1805, two sons and two daughters joined a heavy migration from Berks and adjacent counties to the Salt Creek Valley of Ohio. Among the migrant siblings were Eva Barbara Strasser who was born in 1752 in Berks County and married to Johann Jakob Stumpf, she died in 1836 in Hocking county, Ohio.
