    Gladys Beek
    Gladys M. Beek, 75, of Nashville, passed away at 8:35 p.m. on Sautrday, May 31, 2003 at Washington County Hospital in Nashville.
    Born on November 21, 1927 in Hoyleton, she was the daughter of Alvin E. and Viola S. (Hake) Hoffman. She was baptized on March 11, 1928 by Rev. Henry Idel and confirmed on May 12, 1940 by Rev. Otto R. Buess at North Prairie Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to Arthur Beek, Jr. on September 22, 1946 at North Prairie Methodist Church by Rev. Roy Brown and he survives.
    Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Jay L. Beek and wife Jennifer of Raceland, Kentucky, two daughters, Carol A. Fruend and husband Gene of Nashville and Brenda K. Blades and husband Kenny of Island, KEntucky; a brother, Virgil Hoffman and wife Catherine of Sparta; six grandchildren, Janel Mueller, Sharisa Burden, Jody Liszewski, Brad Fruend, Justin Beek and Jared Beek; and six great-grand-children, Kaity, Hunter, Paige, Lily, Keaghan and Jessica.
    She was preceded in death by her parents.
    Gladys was a graduate of Nashville Community High School. She was a secretary at Washington County AAA, Washington County Service Company and St. Paul United Church of Christ. She was a bookkeeper at Nashville Community High School from 1981 to 1990 and a payroll clerk at King Management Co. in Nashville from1991 to 1997.
    She was a member of North Prairie MEthodist Church until transferring her membership to St. Paul Evanvelical Church in Nashville in 1946, and served as organist at St. Paul's since September 1950. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included music and golf.
    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Lance Lackore officiating. Burial will be in North Prairie Cemetery, near Hoyleton.
    Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Research, St. Paul UCC Scholarship Fund or St. Paul UCC Digital Hymnal Fund and will be received at Styninger-Krupp Funeral Home in Nashville.

  1. 14.  HOFFMAN ALVIN EDWIN was born on 22 Oct 1895 (son of HOFFMAN HENRY ERNEST and KRUGHOFF MARY (MARIA) MARTHA); died on 27 Apr 1974; was buried in North Prairie Cemetery, Washington County, Illinois.

    Alvin E. Hoffman (partical article) 1979 Washington County History book.
    Alvin and Viola Hoffman, and both their children, Virgil and Gladys, were confirmed and married in North Prairie Methodist Church and attended Elm Point Elementary School.
    Except for his service time in WWI, Alvin E. Hoffman lived his entire life on the same farm and even today, his remains are at rest on a portion of that land, as he, along with his parents, four brothers and four sisters, are buried on North Prairie Cemetery.
