On a more personal note, Jeff Doughty seems to have been a distant-minded man. While the rest of his family was living in Yalobusha County, Mississippi, he must have had his eyes set on Texas. How exactly he got to Moore County, TX is still a mystery. From a source, related to the Doty family, one of Jeff's brothers was said to have been a hobo and died while on the road. No further information can be found on Jeff after the 1920 census, so it could have very well been him.

Mary (daughter of MCCULLAR Benjamin M and FLOWERS Sarah A L) was born in 1853 in Water Valley, Yalobusha, Mississippi; died after 1920 in Courtland or Water Valley, Mississippi; was buried after 1920 in Love Joy Methodist Church Cemetery, Panola County, Mississippi. Notes:

Daniel (senior) Doughty's will of 1804 mentions two sons, Joseph and Laban. In 1805, Laban's name was changed to Daniel Laban Milton Doty due to Laban Oakley's (father in law to Daniel senior) involvement in the poisoning of Daniel senior.

Daniel and brother Joseph moved to Tuscaloosa County, Alabama at a young age. They acquired land and lived there for a short time before moving to Mississippi. Daniel settled in Attala County, and there he engaged in farming and cattle raising. On his land was a large spring of water, which still bears his name today; Doty Springs. Daniel adopted the Doty spelling.

Daniel married BURCHFIELD Lucinda on 6 Jan 1826 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Lucinda was born in 1805 in Pendleton District, South Carolina; died in 1887 in Attala County, Mississippi; was buried in 1887 in Attala County, Mississippi. [Group Sheet]

Benjamin married FLOWERS Sarah A L about 1849 in Panola County, Mississippi. Sarah (daughter of FLOWERS James and UNKNOWN Susan Elizabeth) was born about 1828 in Alabama; died about 1905 in Panola County, Mississippi; was buried about 1905 in Panola County, Mississippi. [Group Sheet]
